Lifelong Learning and Skills Directorate
Our directorate helps shape education and skills opportunities for Scotland’s young people and adult learners, allowing them to thrive and successfully enter, sustain and progress in the world of work We are supported in this through our sponsorship bodies: the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
We are responsible for:
- delivering a ten-year transformation programme to reform the post-school education and skills landscape
- working with partners to develop the knowledge and skills needed to fulfil potential and to make a meaningful contribution to growing Scotland’s economy
- ensuring access to post-school education and skills development is based on the ability to learn and not the ability to pay
- supporting research and innovation to enhance global understanding and to progress societal wellbeing
