Introduction
The Scottish Household Survey (SHS) provides robust evidence on the characteristics, attitudes and behaviours of private households and individuals, and on the physical condition of Scotland’s homes.
This page contains links to reports on a wide variety of topics covered in the SHS, including demographics, neighbourhoods, discrimination and harassment, housing, household finances, fuel poverty, internet, physical activity, environment, volunteering, culture, childcare, local services, and trust in public institutions.
The SHS results for transport and travel in Scotland are published on the Transport Scotland website.
See also further information about the SHS, including the questionnaires and methodology.
Scottish Household Survey Data Explorer
The Data Explorer is an interactive tool for accessing Scottish Household Survey results through tables and charts. You can compare results over time, or between different local authority areas in Scotland.
The SHS results on the Data Explorer are divided into 11 topics: housing, neighbourhoods, household finances, internet, physical activity, local services, environment, volunteering, culture, childcare, and trust in public institutions.
Survey results from 2020 and 2021 are not available via the Data Explorer. During 2020 and 2021 the mode of the survey changed significantly as a result of limitations imposed by the Covid pandemic. Due to these limitations, the data from 2020 and 2021 was published as experimental data and is not directly comparable with data from other years.
