Overview
The National Committee on Burial and Cremation was originally set up in 2014 as the National Committee on Infant Cremation, fulfilling a key recommendation of the Rt Hon. Lord Bonomy's Report of the Infant Cremation Commission.
The group was renamed in October 2016 following agreement that the majority of Lord Bonomy's recommendations had been implemented, and that the group should widen its scope.
The Committee is now overseeing the implementation of Dame Elish Angiolini's National Cremation Investigation recommendations, as well as wider burial and cremation developments set out in the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016.
The Committee will meet two to three times per year.
