Planning: Biodiversity Technical Advice Group

Overview

National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4) is our national spatial strategy for Scotland. It sets out our spatial principles, regional priorities, national developments and national planning policy.

NPF4’s Delivery Programme (version 2) committed the Scottish Government to develop guidance to support the implementation and delivery of NPF4 policy 3.

To support this, we convened the Biodiversity Technical Advice Group in March 2023. The group includes members from the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, the Royal Town Panning Institute, the Improvement Service, NatureScot, SEPA and Heads of Planning Scotland.

We published draft guidance to support policy 3 biodiversity in 2023.
