Scottish fish farm production survey 2018
Statistical news release.
Marine Scotland Science has published the Scottish Fish Farm Production Survey 2018, detailing levels of production and employment from Scottish fish farms.
The publication is structured to follow industry trends within the farmed Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout and ‘other species’ sectors. Some statistics are given for the 21-year period 1998-2018.
The main findings are;
- The total number of staff employed in marine salmon production during 2018 increased by 77 to 1,466 staff
- In 2018, production of Atlantic salmon decreased by 33,682 tonnes (17.8%) to 156,025 tonnes
- Production tonnage of rainbow trout decreased by 16% in 2018 to 6,413 tonnes
- Brown trout/sea trout production decreased from 61 tonnes in 2017 to 20 tonnes in 2018
