Upgraded PlayTalkRead roadshow fleet
Roadshow visitors increase 31% in the last year.
More families across Scotland will receive support following the expansion and upgrade of the PlayTalkRead roadshow fleet.
Taking place on specially-converted buses that tour communities across Scotland, the roadshow encourages parents and carers to play, talk and read more with their babies and young children.
PlayTalkRead offers practical support and ideas on how to create the best foundations for children’s development. On board staff provide lots of opportunities for parents and carers to build confidence, trying out new activity ideas such as messy play, storytelling or arts and crafts. All activities are low cost and achievable to replicate at home with their child.
Following a record-breaking year, which saw visitors increase 31%, Children’s Minister Maree Todd launched a new third bus, nicknamed Bonnie, and unveiled new bus wraps for the existing vehicles which will increase visibility and awareness.
Speaking at the launch, Ms Todd said:
“The PlayTalkRead roadshow offers vital support to families across Scotland, and I am delighted that today’s expansion of the fleet will enable us to reach more communities throughout the country.
“I hear time and again about the positive impact the roadshow is having on families, and how important the support and advice on development and play can be.
“The addition of Bonnie to the fleet will mean that even more babies and young children can enjoy playing, talking and reading with their loved ones, ensuring they get the best possible start in life.”
