Global capital investment
Global capital investment can play an important role in supporting our economic recovery and meeting our objectives around Net Zero, place making and inclusive economic growth.
Our focus is on attracting productive forms of private capital investment, by creating the right market conditions, and doing so in a way that is consistent with our values. We published Scotland’s first Global Capital Investment Plan, Investing with Purpose, on 16 March 2021.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investment
There is a growing global movement towards Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investing. We are building the conditions for Scotland to lead this global movement, and benefit from it. Our aim is for Scotland to become a global hub for ethical investment.
Economic themes
We have identified four economic themes to focus on for targeting private investment. These areas are where we have an international comparative advantage:
- low carbon transition
- health and life sciences
- digital
- high value manufacturing
The four economic themes are supported by a fifth priority around ‘place’. Sectoral strengths that emerge from the economic themes will be supported to develop as clusters of expertise, which will raise the international profile of Scottish opportunities and serve to attract further investment.
