Items and actions

Welcome and action points from previous meeting

It was noted that the minutes and highlight report of the previous Advancing Practice meeting held 17 May 2022 were agreed.

Update on previously agreed action points:

  • any other business is to be sent in advance of future meetings – ongoing
  • Scottish Government (SG) to draft a driver diagram for the subgroup based on discussions – complete

It was clarified that, although the scope of the group should consider all levels of Allied Health Professions (AHPs) in the career framework, from bands two to eight, inclusively when considering the optimisation of the workforce and advancing practice, specific solutions for bands two to five, pre-registration would be considered by the education solutions subgroup. Postgraduate education and training would however fall within the groups remit and coordination between the groups would be facilitated by officials and those on the oversight group.

Terms of reference (TOR)

The TOR has been agreed and virtually signed off by the group.

Action points:

  • volunteers for vice chair to be sent to secretariat by next meeting on 9 August 2022
  • highlight reports from the other subgroups to be shared by next meeting on 9 August 2022

Driver diagram

The group considered the driver diagram, focussing on secondary drivers. A jamboard was used to ensure all thoughts and suggestions were captured and the following primary drivers were agreed with a number of secondary drivers themed:

  • training and education in service
  • ongoing clinical and professional supervision
  • capability frameworks and job planning
  • resources
  • evaluation

Action point:

  • SG to assimilate and share updated driver diagram by next meeting on 9 August 2022

Presentation on Transforming Roles

David Wylie, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) presented on the Transforming Roles paper. It was noted that this subgroup sits somewhere within the workforce model section of the paper.

The aim is for the subgroup to put forward a recommendation around Transforming Roles. This will involve a smaller subgroup who will refine the current paper with policy support from SG.

David Wylie will chair the smaller subgroup and the following members volunteered to be involved:

  • Mhairi Brandon, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Consultant AHP
  • Ruth Currie, Allied Health Professions Federation Scotland (AHPFS)
  • Gillian Macleod, Scottish Directors of AHPs (SDAHP)

Action point:

  • share the Transforming Roles paper with the group by 30 June 2022

Any other business

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 9 August 2022 from 1pm to 2.30pm.
