Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in the period 3 June to 16 June 2024 (Wave 110), 25.5% of businesses reported experiencing a shortage of workers
  • in Wave 110, the industry sector with the highest proportion of businesses reporting a shortage of workers was Construction (35.1%)
  • the main concerns for businesses for July 2024 were falling demand of goods and services (16.3%) and inflation of goods and services prices (12.1%)
  • in Wave 110, 25.2% of businesses reported that the prices of materials, goods or services bought in May 2024 had increased compared with April 2024
  • in Wave 110, the industry sector with the highest proportion of businesses reporting increases in the prices of materials, goods and services bought was Accommodation and Food Services (44.1%)
  • in Wave 110, 32.4% of businesses reported that their turnover had increased in May 2024 compared to the previous calendar month - rising to 53.6% of businesses in the Accommodation and Food Services sector
  • overall, an estimated 14.3% of businesses reported that their turnover had decreased in May 2024 compared to the previous calendar month
  • in Wave 110, 34.4% of businesses thought their performance would increase over the next 12 months and 6.1% expected performance to decrease
