Business Insights and Conditions Survey (BICS) weighted Scotland estimates containing data to wave 111


Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in Wave 111 (17 June to 30 June 2024), 16.3% of businesses expected to increase capital expenditure over the next three months
  • of businesses expecting to authorise capital expenditure over the next three months, around half (51.6%) reported that this was for replacements
  • in Wave 111, 73.5% of businesses reported that they had taken action to reduce carbon emissions - switching to LED bulbs (48.6%) and adjusting heating and cooling systems (44.6%) were the actions most frequently reported by businesses
  • in Wave 111, an estimated 47.8% of businesses were very concerned or somewhat concerned about the impact climate change may have on the business, rising to 61.8% of businesses in the Construction sector
  • in Wave 111, 15.6% of businesses reported that they are currently using some form of artificial intelligence technology, rising to 59.1% for businesses in the Information and Communication sector

Note that the BICS Scotland data for Wave 112 and Wave 113 are scheduled for release on Friday 9th of August 2024.
