Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland
- in July 2024, 31.2% of businesses reported experiencing a shortage of workers
- the industry sector with the highest proportion of businesses reporting a shortage of workers was Construction (42.5%)
- the main concern for businesses for August 2024 was falling demand of goods and services (17.4%), although 19.4% of businesses had no concerns
- 19.8% of businesses reported that the prices of materials, goods or services bought in June 2024 had increased compared with May 2024
- the industry sector with the highest proportion of businesses reporting increases in the prices of materials, goods and services bought between May and June 2024 was Accommodation and Food Services (37.1%)
- 23.6% of businesses reported that their turnover had increased in June 2024 compared to the previous calendar month, whereas 22.4% of businesses reported that their turnover had decreased
- in July 2024, 31.7% of businesses thought their performance would increase over the next 12 months and 8.2% expected performance to decrease
Note that the BICS Scotland data for Wave 114 is scheduled for release on Friday 30th of August 2024.
