The Energy Savings Trust have recently published the latest edition of the Community and Locally Owned Energy in Scotland report covering the figures for 2022: https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/report/communityand- locally-owned-energy-in-scotland-2022-report/.

Response

I enclose a copy of all the information you requested across the tables below.

The answer to your questions are as follows:

  • The annual capacity and number of installations by technology for each year from 2010 to 2022. This should be data underlying Figures 10 and 11 in the report.

Please refer to Table 3 in Annex A which shows the generation capacity in MWs by technology of community and locally owned renewable energy, while Table 4 shows the number of installations by technology.

  • The annual capacity and number of installations by ownership category for each year from 2010 to 2022. This should be data underlying Figures 10 and 11 in the report.

Please refer to Tables 1 and 2 in Annex A, which breakdown ownership categories by capacity and by number of instillations respectively.

  • The annual capacity and number of installations owned by each local authority for 2022? This should be data underlying Figures 6 and 7 in the report.

Please refer to Table 5 in Annex A which breaks down capacity (MW) and the number of installations owned by each of the 32 local authorities in Scotland.

Clarifications on the data provided:

When referring to the data provided in Annex A, I would recommend that you also refer to the definitions and descriptions in the ‘Data Dictionary’ found in Annex B of this response. This should reduce the risk of misinterpretation of the figures presented.

Please also note that, while every effort has been made to verify the ownership of a particular renewable project or installation, in some cases we are unable to explicitly confirm the owner due to constraints with the level and access of the data available. Similarly, we cannot guarantee that every community and locally owned renewable installation has been identified as many smaller sized projects may not be reported in the public domain, particularly if they do not require planning permission and are privately funded.
