Building standards - Futures Board Programme: workstream information
A programme to support sustainable improvements to the building standards system and increase the level of compliance with building regulations.
Overview
The Building Standards Futures Board was set up in May 2019 to strategically advise and direct a broad programme of work following recommendations from the Review Panels on Compliance and Enforcement and Fire (Safety). The Review Panels were commissioned to support the work of the Ministerial Working Group on Building and Fire Safety established to oversee reviews following the fire at Grenfell Tower, London in 2017 and other public building failures in Scotland.
The programme has been delivering change to support sustainable improvements to the building standards system and increase the level of compliance with building regulations. Seven workstreams were agreed in 2019:
- verification delivery model
- compliance plan approach
- digital transformation
- certification strategy
- workforce strategy
- technical strategy
- verification standards
Progress and change are happening across all workstreams. From 2024 delivery will focus on four workstreams:
- compliance plan approach
- verification delivery model (incorporating verification standards)
- certification strategy
- digital transformation
Read more information on the four key workstreams.
The Board meets 3 to 4 times a year. See the meeting notes. If you would like further information on the Futures Board programme, please contact buildingstandards@gov.scot.
