7.0 Supply and Demand – current, medium, long and longer term

7.1. The gap between supply and demand has decreased from 2022 to 2023. However, supply remains insufficient to meet levels of future demand. Given the uptick in supply and demand remaining broadly the same, the gap between supply and demand is closing. See Table 3.

7.2. The current demand is 637 in 2023, which represents a supply gap of 39 (6.1%) staff. It is estimated that demand will continue to increase by an additional 51 (13%) staff by 2026. This represents a shortfall of 90 staff on the current supply level.

7.3. Demand across job roles is highest for the surveyor and building inspector roles.

7.4. The overall level of demand in the next 10 years (2023 to 2033) remains high with 61 new posts required. This represents a shortfall of 100 (14.3%) staff by 2033 if the current supply level remains consistent in the longer term.
