Caring Together: The Carers Strategy for Scotland 2010 - 2015
The Scottish Government and COSLA are determined to ensure that carers are supported to manage their caring responsibilities with confidence and in good health, and to have a life of their own outside of caring.
APPENDIX 8 CARER PATHWAY
1. Under the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968, as amended by the Community Care and Health (Scotland) Act 2002, carers who provide a "substantial amount of care on a regular basis" are entitled to an assessment.
2. Carers who provide substantial and regular care who choose not to have a carer's assessment can nonetheless access support. However the preferred route to support is via a good quality carer's assessment.
