Cereal and oilseed rape harvest: final estimates - 2024
Final estimates of area, yield and production for winter and spring barley, wheat, oats and oilseed rape, for the 2024 harvest.
An average year for the overall cereal harvest
Total cereal production decreases by 2% to around 3.0 million tonnes in 2024 compared to 2023. The result is just 1% below the 5-year average.
Wet weather particularly affected winter planting and continued into spring planting. Area used to grow winter crops decreased and the area of spring planted crops increased. Overall, the area of cereals decreased around 1% from 2023.
The total cereal yield of 7.0 tonnes per hectare is just below the 5-year average of 7.1 tonnes per hectare.
