Initial estimates of area, yield and production for winter and spring barley, wheat, oats and oilseed rape, for the 2024 harvest.

A return to average for oilseed rape after a record crop in 2023

Oilseed rape production is predicted to return to a more average level after the record 20 year high of 2023. In 2024, oilseed rape production is expected to be around 133 thousand tonnes.

Despite a 10% decrease in area from 2023, the sown area remains above the 10-year average. Combined with an 11% decrease in yield, 2024 is predicted to be an average year for oilseed rape production.

Industry experts anticipate a wide variation in results across regions in Scotland.

Oilseed rape estimates are not as reliable as those of other crops due to the small amount grown and limited data available at this early stage.
