Cereal and oilseed rape harvest - first estimates: 2024

Initial estimates of area, yield and production for winter and spring barley, wheat, oats and oilseed rape, for the 2024 harvest.


Increase in spring barley production expected as winter barley declines

Spring barley

Spring barley production is predicted to be around 1.7 million tonnes in 2024. This is a 4% increase on 2023. Industry experts report some very good quality spring barley this year.

Spring barley area is predicted to increase by 4%. Yields are predicted to increase by 4% to 6.6 tonnes per hectare.

Winter barley

Winter barley production is predicted to be around 329 thousand tonnes in 2024. This is a 5% decrease compared to 2023 and driven by a 7% decrease in sown area.

Winter barley yield is predicted to be 7.6 tonnes per hectare, an increase of 2% from 2023.
