Introduction

These statistics include data collected from five secure care accommodation services in Scotland. This includes Good Shepherd Secure Unit, Kibble Safe Centre, Rossie Secure Accommodation Services, St. Mary’s Kenmure, and Edinburgh Secure Services. Edinburgh Secure Services closed on 30th June 2023.

These figures relate to the reporting year 01 August 2022 to 31 July 2023. Secure care accommodation statistics form part of our annual Children’s Social Work data collections, with statistics relating to Child Protection, Looked After Children and Eligible for Aftercare published separately from this year onwards. All data used to produce the charts are available in the supporting publication and additional tables files. For purposes of presentation, table columns and chart axes refer to these as whole years (e.g., 2023 reflects 2022-23 collection).
