Climate Change Bill 2024: screening determination

Statement confirming that the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets)(Scotland) Bill is unlikely to have significant environmental effects.


The Scottish Government Directorate for Energy and Climate Change confirms that the Government has determined, using the criteria set out in Schedule 2 of the Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005, that the Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets)(Scotland) Bill is unlikely to have significant environmental effects.

Responses from the Consultation Authorities were received in August 2024, whose overall opinion was that the Bill was unlikely to have significant environmental effects. A Strategic Environmental Assessment is therefore not required.

The following determination advert which will be placed in the Herald newspaper, and SEA consultation authorities have been notified of this determination.

Climate Change (Emissions Reduction Targets) (Scotland) Bill

The Scottish Government has determined that the above plan is unlikely to have significant environmental effects and that a Strategic Environmental Assessment is therefore not required. The screening determination can be viewed on the gov.scot website.
