The Adult Clinical Pathway provides information about the healthcare and Forensic Medical examination (FME) for victims of rape or sexual assault; the steps that should be followed by the clinician undertaking the examination; and the requirements for follow up care and ongoing support.

![Following disclosure to professional, this is the point of access into Sexual Assault Service. A needs assessment then takes place; There are three routes available to an individual: Healthcare and wellbeing assessment only – individual states will never report to police Self-referral –where individual does not report to police at this time. If they consent to a FME forensic samples are stored. If they decline a FME or it is over 7 days, healthcare and wellbeing assessment only. Police Referral – where individual consents to FME and forensic samples are passed to police for investigation. If they decline FME or it is over 7 days, healthcare and wellbeing assessment only.
