Community Learning and Development (CLD) - Statistics Brief

This statistics brief presents data relevant to CLD in Scotland. While the Scottish Government does not collect or publish data on participation in, and the impact of, CLD, several sources provide information on the communities CLD is trying to reach.


Qualifications and Employment

It is estimated that in 2022, 9.9% of the population aged 16-64 years had ‘low or no qualifications’ (SCQF Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework level 4 or below).

  • The unemployment rate for those aged 16 to 24 in Scotland has been consistently higher than the unemployment rate for any other age group.
  • In January to December 2023, an estimated 16.5% of people aged 16 to 64 who were inactive reported that they wanted to work, the lowest percentage in the series.
