Corrections to children and young people statistics

Corrections to the Scottish Government's published children and young people statistics.

22 October 2019 - Childrens Social Work Statistics 2017-18

An Errata was published on the 22nd October 2019 as a result of changes on Page 24 of the publication, where the paragraph headed 'Bed complement' should state that there are 7 rather than 6 beds for emergency and respite use.

The figures for concerns identified at the case conferences of children who were on the child protection register at 31 July 2018, by local authority (additional table 4.5) were corrected.

The figures for young people discharged from, and admitted to secure care accommodation by gender and destination(additional tables 5.1 and 5.5) were corrected.

The 2017-18 publication has been re-issued, with updates to the HTML and PDF versions of this publication to reflect these changes, and corrected additional tables and 4.5, 5.1, 5.5.

5 December 2018 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No. 8, 2017 Edition

In December 2018 the number of graduate staff and staff working towards graduate level qualifications was corrected to take into account an error with the data from Falkirk. Previously, the figures erroneously included many staff who did not hold or were not working towards graduate level qualifications meeting the SSSC benchmark for registration as a manager / lead practitioner. As data for September 2017 was not available when the error was discovered, the figures for 2017 for Falkirk have been estimated using data from September 2018 matched with the data supplied in 2017. This error only affected table 5.2 the main publication, as well as tables 12, 13, 14 and 15 in the additional Early Learning and Childcare tables. All of these tables have been amended.

04 December 2018 - Children's Social Work Statistics, 2012-13 to 2016-17 editions

In December 2018, the figures for the length of time children spent on the child protection register before being deregistered were corrected. This correction affects figures previously published for all years from 2012-13 to 2016-17. These figures are in chart 5 and table 2.3 of the main tables.

The 2016-17 publication has been re-issued, with the corrected chart 5, table 2.3 and accompanying analysis. The details of the correction and the effect of the correction on the figures are in the newly added Annex C and in an additional xlsx file available for download.

19 June 2018 - Children's Social Work Statistics, 2012-13 to 2016-17 editions

In June 2018, the figures for the number of children who were both looked after and on the child protection register at 31 July were corrected. This correction affects figures previously published for all years from 2012-13 to 2016-17. Previously these figures included children who were on the child protection register on 31 July and who had been looked after at any point in the previous year. This also had a knock-on effect on the figure for the total number of children looked after or on the child protection register.

This has now been corrected so that only children looked after and on the child protection register on 31 July are included in the figures. The 2016-17 publication has been re-issued, with the accompanying tables 6.1 and 6.2 showing the corrected and uncorrected figures for each year.
