  2. How many social care workers have had their Covid-19 and flu vaccine this year

Response

Question 1

As of 27 November 2022, 53,248 (52.7%) frontline healthcare workers have received a COVID-19 vaccine as part of the Winter Booster Programme and 90,516 (50.9%) of all healthcare workers have received a flu vaccine. The latest figures are published each Wednesday at 12pm on the Public Health Scotland Flu and COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Scotland dashboard: Flu and COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Scotland dashboard - COVID-19 statistical report - 23 November 2022 - COVID-19 statistical report - Publications - Public Health Scotland.

Please note, health and social care workers who do not have face to face contact with patients are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in the Winter Vaccination Programme, therefore registered clinicians such as doctors or nurses who do not have patient contact are not eligible for a winter COVID-19 vaccine. However, they will remain eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine under the Winter Vaccination Programme based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) if they are:

  • staff working in care homes for older adults
  • frontline health and social care workers
  • an adult aged 50 years and over
  • those aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical risk group, including pregnant women
  • those aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression
  • carers aged 16-49 years

We do not hold data that breaks the healthcare worker data down to specific job roles and so cannot provide figures on the percentage of doctors and nurses who have received a COVID-19 and flu vaccine.

Question 2

As of 27 November 2022, 47,846 (35.5%) frontline social care workers have received a COVID-19 vaccine as part of the Winter Booster Programme and 47,783 (31.8%) of all social care workers have received a flu vaccine. The latest figures are published each Wednesday at 12pm on the Public Health Scotland Flu and COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Scotland dashboard: Flu and COVID-19 vaccination uptake in Scotland dashboard - COVID-19 statistical report - 23 November 2022 - COVID-19 statistical report - Publications - Public Health Scotland

Please note, health and social care workers who do not have face to face contact with patients are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine in the Winter Vaccination Programme. However, they will remain eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine under the Winter Vaccination Programme based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) if they are:
