7.1 Part of statutory throughcare involves preparing reports to inform temporary release from prison on home leave and liberation on licence. In 2016-17, 1,600 home leave reports ^[2] were produced. Numbers have been around this level in each of the last five years, after dropping sharply from the levels of around 2,000 in both 2010-11 and 2011-12. A total of 1,700 home circumstance reports for release from prison on parole/non-parole licence were recorded in 2016-17. This number has remained around 1,500-1,700 since 2010-11 ( Table 1).

7.2 From 2006, those serving a custodial sentence may also be released early under a home detention curfew scheme. During 2016-17, there were 2,500 home detention curfew assessments, six per cent lower than in 2015-16. Numbers have fallen in each of the last four years and are now more than a fifth lower than they were in 2012-13 ( Table 5).
