Democracy Matters Phase 2: analysis of responses - easy read

An easy read version of an analysis report of responses to the second phase of the Democracy Matters engagement process, which ran from August 2023 until February 2024. During this time, communities from across Scotland came together to consider how decision-making should look.

What people told us

The main things people told us were:

The system for community decision making should be flexible. It should change to meet the needs of each community and place.

Decision-making should shape services in an organised way. It should listen to the views of the whole community, including minority groups.

People need to be able to trust the system. Good communication and planning are important.

People should know how to take part in making decisions. This should be done in ways that are as accessible as possible.

A decision making organisation should have a good budget that can be spent how it is needed.

Training should be available so communities can have the skills they need to take part in decision making.
