Diet and healthy weight: monitoring report 2023 update

Update on a compendium publication bringing together data mostly already published by various other sources.

The Diet and Healthy Weight Monitoring Report is an Official Statistics report normally published in October or November each year (last published in October 2020). It is a compendium publication bringing together data mostly already published by various other sources.

The indicators presented in the report come from the following sources:

  • Scottish Health Survey (adult and children overweight and obesity, adult and children fruit and vegetable consumption) and from 2021, total and saturated fat and free sugars also come from the Scottish Health Survey (these indicators previously came from Food Standards Scotland)
  • Scottish Diabetes Survey (type 2 diabetes prevalence)
  • Food Standards Scotland (sales of soft drinks with added sugar, sales of confectionery, biscuits, cakes and pastries)

There was previously also an indicator on the healthy living award measured using data from Public Health Scotland, but that has now been discontinued.

Most of the data included in the Diet and Healthy Weight Monitoring report is now presented in the Scottish Health Survey report and the remaining few indicators are available in other publications or discontinued.

As a result, a decision has been made to discontinue the publication of this report.
