Items and actions

Welcome and review of previous meeting minutes and actions

RB welcomed attendees and noted apologies. 
RB outlined the previous meeting’s actions, and the meeting agenda and outcomes were shared:

  • share updates in respect of engagement activity since May
  • share exceptions to the common challenges in respect of transitions 
  • consider what is working well, and what would be better, for the strategy’s priorities

Group updates

RB shared an update on the ongoing engagement on the strategy, noting the events officials have already attended, and those upcoming.
RB also highlighted:

RB invited group updates. 

  • TF noted there have been six parent carer sessions facilitated by ARC Scotland for the engagement on the strategy 
  • IW shared that there have been updates to the ILF person-centred planning process
  • MS highlighted there is expected to be a GDA engagement event in early August for disabled young people and parent carers

Outcomes – group discussion

The group split into breakout rooms to discuss exceptions to the common challenges identified in respect of transitions for disabled young people, and what is working well and what could be better in relation to each of the strategy’s priorities. Some feedback included: 

  • the importance of training for professionals
  • the role of transitions coordinators
  • use of the Principles of Good Transitions
  • how to improve data collection, inclusively

Next steps, any other business and close

RB shared details of a further two meetings of the group, following which membership and meeting frequency will be reviewed.

  • Members to share link to Dialogue with appropriate contacts
