Bioenergy - draft policy statement: consultation

We are seeking views on the priorities and principles that we have set out for the use of bioenergy, as well as views on the potential to scale up domestic production of biomass via planting of perennial energy crops.

Footnotes

1. Negative Emissions occur when CO2 is removed from the atmosphere and sequestered.

2. The Supergen Bioenergy Hub have developed a Bioeconomy Sustainability Indicator Model (BSIM) which can help map the sustainability of any bioeconomy project against 126 indicators. Ensuring the sustainability of biomass resources helps to minimise any risks, such as deforestation, whilst still delivering progress in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

3. Figures for woodland expansion also included some non-agricultural land.
