Universal Credit - mitigation of the two-child limit: consultation - easy read

This consultation seeks views on our proposals to mitigate the two-child limit in Universal Credit in Scotland.

Introduction

The Scottish Government currently has 15 benefit payments for people in Scotland.

Social Security Scotland delivers these benefits for the Scottish Government.

The UK Government used to deliver all benefits in Scotland.

Changes in the law mean that the Scottish Government can now deliver some benefits instead.

Some Scottish Government benefits only exist in Scotland. Others have replaced benefits that the UK Government used to deliver.

Universal Credit is a benefit paid by the UK Government through the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The law lets the Scottish Government make small changes to some parts of Universal Credit.

The law also lets the Scottish Government pay extra amounts for to people getting UK Government benefits.
