Employment Injury Assistance (EIA) delivery – next steps: Scottish Government response - easy read
Easy read version of our response to the consultation on Employment Injury Assistance held between 30 April and 25 June 2024.
Case Transfer
Feedback
Case transfer is the process of moving a person’s existing benefit from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to Social Security Scotland.
People told us they were worried about making sure they continued to receive payments following the introduction of Employment Injury Assistance. This is because this process is very complicated.
Organisations and people asked us to make sure current payments are protected.
Organisations asked us to consider how Employment Injury Assistance will work alongside UK benefits such as the lump-sum payments scheme for asbestos related conditions.
Scottish Government Response
As we have made clear, the protection of current payments is a priority for the Scottish Government.
Many applications for Industrial Injury Scheme benefits are held in paper files in different buildings and are very old.
The transfer of up to 150,000 paper files would cost a lot of money and take a lot of time compared to other benefits which have been transferred to Scotland.
We do not intend to transfer the files in the current Parliament.
We want to prioritise changes to the benefit which will be a better use of money.
