Generation and Supply of Electricity in 2023

 

Electricity generated from low carbon sources (this includes hydro, wind, solar, pumped hydro, nuclear and bio energy) formed 89.6% of all electricity generated in Scotland in 2023.

Scotland is a net exporter of electricity. In 2023, the equivalent of 33.8% of electricity generated in Scotland was exported: 13.9 TWh to England and Wales, and 2.0 TWh to Northern Ireland.

 

Scotland has seen a steady rise in the proportion of electricity generated from low-carbon sources from 49.4% in 2004 to 89.6% in 2023.
