Results for the Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) undertaken to consider the impacts on equality of the Guidance on Mobile Phones in Scotland's Schools.

Stage 1: Framing

Results of framing exercise

There is significant evidence available, including through PISA 2022 and the Behaviour in Scottish Schools Research 2023, of the impact of mobile phone use in schools.

There is some evidence available of children’s views of limitations of mobile phone use in schools specifically. There is more evidence available of parents’ and carers’ views of mobile phone use in schools.

There is significant research available on the impact of mobile phones and other technologies in schools.

Where there was limited evidence available in relation to the impact of mobile phones in schools, anecdotal or other evidence was used where available.

The framing exercise was also informed by existing school policies which had been made available to the team in their preparation of the guidance.

Extent/Level of EQIA required

A partial EQIA is required for this work. The protected characteristics of age and marriage and civil partnership do not apply to schools. Impact has been assessed across all of the relevant protected characteristics, those most affected are:
