Recipients of Equality Budget Caledonian funding from October 2021 to March 2023.
In October 2021, many of the organisations previously funded under 'Violence against women and girls: national and intermediary funding' were successful in gaining funding through the new 'Delivering Equally Safe Fund'. We managed and provided funding to Caledonian Projects and the funding for the periods October 2021 to March 2022 and April 2022 to March 2023 are shown in the table below.
The Caledonian System is a behaviour change programme for men convicted of domestic abuse offences and support services for their partners and children. It is an integrated approach to dealing with men’s domestic abuse and to improving the lives of women, children and men. It aims at reducing the risk of re-offending, while supporting women and children.
The system includes:
- the men's programme, which men attend as a requirement of a Community Payback Order or post release license. This lasts at least two years and includes six months of one-to-one assessment, engagement and motivation sessions, a 22 group work phase and post-group maintenance work
- the Women's Service, which provides safety planning, information, advice, advocacy and emotional support to female partners and ex-partners. It works with other services, like social work and the police, so that they can give women and their families the support they need
- the Children's Service, which makes sure that the needs of the children whose parents are involved with the Caledonian System are met, their rights upheld and the impact that domestic abuse has on their lives is reduced
All the services are based on risk and needs assessment, and are designed to prevent and minimise possible harm to women and children.
The government has committed to expanding the Caledonian System, increasing our investment to £10 million over the next two years with the aim of making it available to all 32 Scottish local authorities by the end of the current parliamentary term.
