Annex A
This annex lists the datasets from each analytical area used to collect robust data on race and used to proactively publish data breakdowns of variables by race (i.e. ‘green’ ratings for collected and published).
Health and social care analysis
- Early Child Development - 27-30 Health Review Data: this is an administrative dataset containing data collected through an assessment of children aged 27 to 30 months generally carried out by a health visitor
- Psychology Workforce: national data on the workforce providing Psychology Services in NHS Scotland. Dataset is a census that is carried out every 3 months
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Workforce: national data on the workforce providing CAMHS within NHS Scotland. This dataset is a census that is carried out every 3 months.
- Food in Scotland Consumer Tracker Survey: a survey of around 1,000 individuals in Scotland carried out twice a year by Food Standards Scotland
- Inpatient census 2019: this census examines the patients in mental health, addiction and learning disability services. Dataset is a census administered annually. The Scottish Government is the responsible organisation
- Inpatient census 2019: Hospital based complex clinical care and long stay: an administrative dataset derived from operational systems. Provisional data is released weekly, as internal management information. Usually, publication is 3 times a year. Equality data is published once per year. The Scottish Government is the responsible organisation
- Scottish Social Services Sector Workforce Data: data at a national level (and data divided by sector or local authority) on the social services sector in Scotland. Dataset is a census administered annually consisting of approximately 200,000 individuals
Communities analysis division
- The Scottish Household Survey: an annual population survey carried out by the Scottish Government on the composition, characteristics, attitudes and behaviour of private households and individuals (as well as the physical condition) of Scotland’s homes. The survey is carried out annually with a sample size of approximately 10,000 householders
- HL1: examines information on the homelessness monitoring system within Scotland. Data that is held in the operational homelessness systems of the Scottish Councils is sent quarterly to the Scottish Government for use in its Homelessness Statistics (HL1) systems
- PREVENT1: case level data collection to monitor housing options/ homelessness prevention in Scotland
- Social Security Official Statistics: provides information on the performance of Social Security Scotland in relation to the administration of Carer’s Allowance Supplement and Best Start Grant. Statistics are based on administrative data gathered across telephone, online and paper applications
- Social Security Scotland Client Survey: this survey was designed to understand the experiences and needs of Social Security Scotland’s clients with the results being used to see where improvements can occur. The dataset has information collected annually by Social Security Scotland, and comprises data about around 3,000 individuals
- Family Resources Survey: examines information on living standards across the UK based on household income measures in each financial year. Data is collected from a population survey administered on behalf of the UK Government Department for Work and Pensions
- Living Cost and Food Survey: a household food consumption and expenditure survey conducted each year in Great Britain (excluding Northern Ireland) covering aa representative sample. Dataset is collected annually by the ONS
Constitution and external affairs analysis
- Elections Equality Data: dataset in development, to be released in 2022. Dataset will consist of a survey of 2022 local government election candidates
- ‘A Positive Experience for People Coming to Live in Scotland’ NPF Indicator: this indicator is intended to measure one dimension of migrants’ experiences in Scotland – a strong sense of belonging. The indicator shows the percentage of migrants who ‘very’/’fairly’ strongly feel they belong in their neighbourhood in Scotland. This data is from a subsample of the Scottish Household Survey
- Annual Population Survey (Key Variables): Survey of UK residents. the dataset consists of information of a population survey administered by the ONS with data collected every 3 months. The sample size consists of around 300,000 individuals
Education analytical services
- Pupil Census: the purpose of this collection is to obtain accurate data on pupils in publicly funded schools in Scotland. This is an administrative dataset that describes the education system by providing information on the number of schools and pupils, the types and sizes of schools and classes they learn in, and some characteristics of the pupils. The Pupil Census is carried out annually, and comprises data about around 700,000 pupils
- Teachers Census: the purpose of this collection is to obtain accurate data on publicly funded school staff. The Teacher Census is carried out annually, and comprises data about around 50,000 individuals
- School Leaver Attainment and Initial Destinations: this dataset provides information on the educational attainment and initial destinations of school leavers from publicly funded schools in Scotland. Data is collected annually, and comprises data about around 50,000 pupils
- School Leaver Follow-Up Destinations: this dataset provides information on the follow up destinations of school leavers from publicly funded schools in Scotland. Data is collected annually, and comprises data about around 50,000 pupils
- Achievement of Curriculum for Excellence Levels: dataset relating to the achievement of Curriculum for Excellence for all pupils of P1, P4, P7 and S3. Data is collected annually on around 230,000 individuals
- Broad General Education: Benchmarking Tool: educational Improvement Tool containing administrative data collected annually
- SQA Senior Phase Attainment: attainment data on all S3-S6 pupils collected twice a year on around 130,000 pupils. Linkage of this dataset with the Pupil Census provides equality data.
- Health and Wellbeing Census: contains health and wellbeing data collected from around 450,000 pupils annually. Linkage of this dataset with the Pupil Census provides equality data.
- Parental Involvement and Engagement Census: collects data on around 100,000 parents and carers about the involvement and engagement they have with their children's school.
- Looked After Children: administrative data relating to looked after children. Data is collected annually on around 20,000 children per year
- Child Protection: this is an annual data collection with the results being used to monitor policy issues arising around child protection, including the number of child protection investigations, case conferences, registrations, de-registrations and the number of children on child protection registers
- Child Health Systems Programme - Pre-School: administrative data collected owned by Public Health Scotland on around 214,000 children per year
Justice analytical services
- Hate Crime Deep-Dive Data: the dataset contains data collected from an administrative survey conducted annually by Police Scotland on around 2,000 individuals
- CellWise Prison Population Statistics: administrative collected by the Scottish Prison Service on around 17,000 individuals
- Criminal Justice Social Work Statistics: contains national and local authority breakdowns, on criminal justice social work activity in Scotland. Data is collected annually on around 33,000 individuals

- Census 2001: datasets examining characteristics of individuals in the UK. The dataset contains data collected from census conducted once by the National Records of Scotland (NRS). The sample size consists of 5,098,444 individuals from 2,314,029 households
- Census 2011: datasets examining characteristics of individuals in the UK. The dataset contains data collected from census conducted once by the NRS. The sample size consists of 5,337,192 individuals from 2,473,881 households
Office of the Chief Economic Adviser
- Small Business Survey Scotland: data on around 11,000 UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The dataset contains survey data collected annually by devolved administrations on behalf of the UK Government. The sample size consists of 849 Scottish businesses
- Global Enterpreneurship Monitor (GEM): dataset examined 2,019 Scottish individuals in 2020 and is carried out by a number of universities sponsored by NatWest
- Annual Population Survey - Person Dataset: population survey dataset carried out every 3 months by the ONS on behalf of the UK Government. The sample size consists of around 300,000 individuals from 126,000 households
