Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy: Consultation - Easy Read
Easy Read version of the Consultation on Scottish Government's Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy. The Strategy will guide the Government, the wider public sector, and our partners to improve embedding equality, inclusion, and human rights into all that we do
Introduction
The Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy will help public bodies in Scotland to make equality and human rights better in everything they do.
Public bodies are organisations that give services we all use like:
- schools
- hospitals
- councils
In the rest of this document we will call it ‘the Strategy’.
A strategy means a big plan.
Equality means treating people fairly and giving people the same choices and chances.
Human rights are freedoms that are protected in law.
They make sure we are treated fairly and with dignity.
The Scottish Government and public bodies already follow laws about mainstreaming including:
- the Equality Act 2010
- the Public Sector Equality Duty
The Strategy will help organisations to follow these laws.
