Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy: Consultation - Easy Read

Easy Read version of the Consultation on Scottish Government's Equality and Human Rights Mainstreaming Strategy. The Strategy will guide the Government, the wider public sector, and our partners to improve embedding equality, inclusion, and human rights into all that we do

Theme 2. Having transparency and accountability

Accountability means having people who are responsible for the work that is done and who can explain why decisions were made.

Transparency means being clear, honest and open about our work.

We want to make sure:

  • there is accountability and transparency to make sure there is good governance in Government and public bodies

Governance is the rules about ways of working and how decisions are made in an organisation.

  • people have the right to information about policies that affect them in a format that suits them
  • Scottish Government, and public bodies must be responsible for the way they do their work

This includes checking that work on equality is happening and that human rights are being protected.
