Figure 1

Figure 1 is named ‘Illustrative map of the boundaries of the current marine planning zones (0-3 nautical miles)’ and shows a map of Scotland and its surrounding seas. The map shows the boundary lines between each of Scotland’s local authority areas and the boundary lines for the marine planning zones of each coastal local authority

The figure includes a scale ruler image at the bottom right, a key at the top of the figure listing the 32 local authorities which the map identifies, a key at the right of the figure listing the 23 marine planning zones which the map identifies.

The following text is included in the bottom left of the figure:

The figure has two rectangle outlines superimposed over areas of the Firth of Forth and the River Tay on the map. Lines from both rectangles direct out to the right onto larger rectangles which show zoomed in areas from the corresponding rectangles superimposed over the map.

The zoomed in section of the River Tay (at a scale of 1: 900 000), incudes local authority boundary lines with the identifying numbers 3, 9,16 and 25. It also includes marine planning zone boundary lines with the identifying numbers 14, 15, 16 and 17.

The zoomed in section of the River Tay (at a scale of 1: 480 000), incudes local authority boundary lines with the identifying numbers 14, 15, 16 and 31. It also includes marine planning zone boundary lines with the identifying numbers 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.

The figure also includes a square outline to the left, inside the square is a circle identified as being part of Marine Planning Zone 8. The accompanying text reads; Rockall - 437km (236M) west of Stornoway.

Each identified marine planning zone extends out from the coastline of each local authority’s terrestrial boundary limits to a distance of 3 nautical miles, except in instances where a section of a marine planning zone meets the boundary of another marine planning zone as detailed below:

Marine Planning Zone for Dumfries and Galloway, sections of which extend out to the Marine Planning Zone boundaries for South Ayrshire and Argyll and Bute.
