About these statistics

All results are designated as official statistics in development. Users should be aware that the results may be revised and updated when further developments are made. They should therefore be used with appropriate caution at this time.

Estimates for 1998-2020 are consistent with the annual supply and use tables for 1998-2020 (29 November 2023) for the onshore economy. Provisional estimates for 2021 to 2023 are consistent with the latest Quarterly National Accounts for onshore activity.

Estimates of extra-regio activity are consistent with the the equivalent ONS regional GDP statistics (25 April 2023), as well as the Scottish Government statistics on oil and gas production, income and expenditure, among other sources. Estimates of extra-regio GVA in this release are now consistent with the Quarterly National Accounts for 2023. Estimates in this release for 2021 and 2022 will be incorporated into future Quarterly National Accounts when the revisions policy opens those years for revision in July 2024.

The summary tables also include estimates for the population share of overseas public administration and defence activity. By doing so, the results include all parts of the wider economy of Scotland including a geographical share of UK extra-regio activities, as reported in the Quarterly National Accounts and Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland statistics.
