Final report of the Access Data Short-Life Working Group

The Access Data Short-life Working Group (SLWG) was formed to consider possible data sources to complement SIMD. This report is the output of that group.

Additional measures considered

Two additional measures not considered by the previous ADWG were discussed by the group: the Higher Education Statistic Agency’s (HESA’s) new area-based measure (Reaching out: The added value of HESA’s new measure of socioeconomic disadvantage | HESA); and the University and College Admission Service’s (UCAS’) multiple equality measure (MEM) (Equality and entry rates data explorers | Undergraduate | UCAS), which can act as an area-based measure, or an individual-level measure using fewer variables.

Although there is potential for both measures to add to a basket of measures available for contextualised decisions, it was felt neither offered the individual level deprivation information offered by both the FSM and SCP data. Therefore further consideration of these measures is not included in this paper.
