Fireworks: the law

The rules on buying and using fireworks and pyrotechnics.

Fireworks and pyrotechnics at sport and music events

It is against the law to have any type of firework or pyrotechnic, including sparklers, at:

  • sporting events like football matches
  • live music events like concerts and festivals, including festival campsites

This applies at venues that can hold 1,000 or more people.

You and your vehicle can be stopped and searched by the police if they suspect you are carrying fireworks or pyrotechnics illegally.

There is an exemption for professional firework organisers putting on an organised display at the event.
