GDP First Quarterly Estimate 2024 Q3 (July to September)

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure the output of the economy in Scotland. The GDP first quarterly estimate is an accredited national statistics publication for Scotland.


  • Scotland’s GDP grew by 0.3% in real terms during the third quarter of 2024 (July to September), after growing 0.4% in the previous quarter (April to June). In the third quarter, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 0.1% after growing 0.5% in the previous quarter.
  • In the third quarter of 2024 services output grew by 0.5% and production output contracted by 0.8%. Growth in the Professional, Scientific and Technical Services sector made the largest contribution towards headline GDP.
  • Compared to the same quarter last year, Scotland’s GDP grew by 0.9%. Over the same period, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 1.0%
