GDP First Quarterly Estimate 2024 Q4 (October to December)

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure the output of the economy in Scotland. The GDP first quarterly estimate is an Accredited Official Statistics publication for Scotland.


  • Scotland’s GDP remained flat (0.0% change) in real terms during the fourth quarter of 2024 (October to December), after growing 0.4% in the previous quarter (July to September). In the fourth quarter, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 0.1% after remaining flat (0.0%) in the previous quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter of 2024 services output grew by 0.2% and production output contracted by 1.1%. Growth in the Business, Services, and Finance and Government & Other Services sectors made the largest positive contributions towards headline GDP.
  • Compared to the same quarter last year, Scotland’s GDP grew by 1.7%. Over the same period, GDP in the UK as a whole grew by 1.4%.
  • Over 2024 as a whole Scotland’s GDP grew by 1.1% compared to 2023. Equivalent UK growth was 0.9%.
