Fisheries Management Measures within Scottish Offshore Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) - Site Proposal Document

This document describes the process, justification and evidence used to develop site specific management measures. It outlines key information for each site including their features, and risks of potential pressures.

5. Site Specific Information

Sections 6 to 29 of the document present the site specific information, this includes general background on the site and features, site conservation objective and details on the fisheries management measures considered and subsequently proposed. In all cases, the protected features refer to the features for which the site was designated, and these are the features measures are being proposed to protect.

A summary table of the scientific advice provided by JNCC for each level of management considered is presented, detailing how differing levels of management would facilitate meeting the sites conservation objectives. The full scientific advice and evidence base used to develop this is publicly available and links are provided throughout. Advice may not be provided where an option of management level is deemed unnecessary (e.g. an irreplaceable feature).

A second table presents the proposed measures which are to be consulted on for each feature, followed by explanatory text and a map displaying the specific measures that have been developed with stakeholders in line with the scientific advice. These measures are Option 1, within the consultation. This may be zonal measures or a full site restriction to gears as deemed necessary.

For fifteen of the sites a second option (Option 2) is available for consideration within the consultation. Under this option gears identified as requiring management would be excluded from the full site.
