Fisheries Management Measures within Scottish Offshore Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) - Socio-Economic Impact Assessment
This assessment is undertaken to identify and assess the potential economic and social effects on the lives and circumstances of people, businesses, and communities. It investigates the potential cumulative economic benefits and costs and associated potential social impacts.
Appendix E Summary of Displacement Test Outcomes
Table E1 provides a summary of the displacement test results for each site, split by vessel length group and gear type, for both management options. Where the displacement test is passed, the table describes at what level displacement can take place: either into other parts of the MPA (where zoning is applicable); into the ICES rectangles immediately surrounding the MPA (without significant impacts); or into the wider region (although additional steaming time may be involved). Where a fleet segment fails the displacement test, this indicates that the extent of fishing activity affected by the measures is significant within the local and regional context. Should effort be displaced to other areas, this is likely to lead to increased conflict with other gear types and fleet segments, and additional environmental impacts as fishing effort is displaced into new/less fished areas.
