Funding for Scottish Airports 2016-17: FOI release

Information requested

You asked to know how much money the Government has provided Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd, Edinburgh Airport, Aberdeen International Airport and Glasgow Prestwick Airport Ltd in individual funding and subsidies over the past financial year, or last available accounts. You clarified that you wanted to know how much total government funding, as in loans, grants and subsidies, each company received for the last year.

The following table sets out the funding that was provided to the airports in 2016-17.

Please note the following in relation to these funding amounts:

• This is funding provided by the core Scottish Government and Transport Scotland. The airports may have received additional funding from other public bodies such as local authorities, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise or VisitScotland. For details of any funding that airports may have received from other bodies you will need to contact those bodies directly.

• In relation to HIAL, the figure provided is gross. HIAL made a payment to the Scottish Government of £5.6 million in 2016-17 meaning that the net funding provided was £26,118,076.29.

• £686,000 of the funding provided to HIAL was in the form of a loan which must be repaid in full with interest.

• All of the £9.6 million in funding provided to Glasgow Prestwick Airport was in the form of loans which must be repaid in full with interest.
