Period covered
The Scottish Government's financial information is held by financial year (1st April to 31st March) rather than calendar year. The response covers financial years 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 to date.
Definition
The Oxford Dictionaries definition of fine is used: a sum of money exacted as a penalty by a court of law or other authority.
Fines paid to the European Union
The European Union does not impose fines on the Scottish Government as defined above. Fines paid by the Scottish Government to the EU for each of the financial years 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 to date were nil.
Fines paid to the UK Government
The UK Government does not impose fines on the Scottish Government as defined above. Fines paid by the Scottish Government to the UK Government for each of the financial years 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 to date were nil.
