During the First Minister's visit to Brussels on 26 June 2016, she met with Jean Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, Martin Schulz, President Of The European Parliament, Gianni Pitella, Group Leader of S&D, Manfred Weber, Group Leader of EPP, Guy Verhofstadt, Group Leader of ALDE, Rebecca Harms And Philippe Lamberts, Joint Group Leaders Of Green & European Free Alliance and Scottish MEPs – Ian Duncan, Ian Hudghton, David Martin, Alyn Smith and Catherine Stihler. During the meetings the discussion focused on the implications of the outcome of the EU referendum vote the previous week. She also hosted a press conference with Brussels based journalists.
Correspondence held relating to the visit is attached in a separate document. No minutes of the meetings are held.
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption under section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information. The reason why this exemption applies is explained below.
Reasons for not providing information
An exemption applies.
An exemption under section 38(1)(b) (personal data) of FOISA applies to a very small part of the information you have requested which has been redacted. This relates to individuals' names. It is exempt from release because it is personal data and its release would contravene the data protection principles in Schedule 1 to the Data Protection Act 1998.
This exemption is not subject to the 'public interest test', so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
