Lost or misplaced IT equipment: FOI release

Information requested

• Details of any Scottish Government computers or other kinds of IT equipment that were lost or misplaced for an extended period of time in 2016-17. Information should include the cost, the specific computer or IT equipment lost, which department or official it belonged to, if it was replaced, and the cost of any replacement.

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

The table contained in the link above is an estimated value for the items lost or stolen based on the cost of a brand new replacement as opposed to the actual depreciated value of the item at the time of its loss or theft.

With regard to the specific computer or IT equipment lost and to whether or not it was replaced this is notice that under section 17(1) of the FOISA that the Scottish Government does not hold this information. Our records reflect the type of equipment lost but not the model or manufacturer. Any request to replace stolen/lost IT kit would be processed as a new request and not specifically as a replacement for previously stolen or lost kit.

Under section 38(1)(b) of the FOISA we would not disclose personal information about the staff member responsible for the lost or stolen IT equipment.
