Pupils taking Higher qualifications in Angus 2007-2018: FOI release

You asked for us to provide the following information for each secondary school in Angus in each year since 2007 (inclusive) and for both S5 and S6 pupils separately:

(i) percentage of pupils who could have undertaken higher examinations but did not?

(ii) percentage of pupils undertaking higher examinations achieved no higher passes?

(iii) percentage of pupils undertaking higher examinations achieved one or more higher passes?

(iv) percentage of pupils undertaking higher examinations achieved three or more higher passes?

(v) percentage of pupils undertaking higher examinations achieved five or more higher passes?

I enclose the information you requested for the years 2010 to 2018.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The reasons why we don’t have the information are explained below.

The Scottish Government does not have all the information you have asked for. Your request was answered using the Insight dataset, which holds attainment data for school cohorts starting from 2010. Attainment data prior to this year are not held on a consistent basis, so cannot be used to provide comparable data. 
 
In relation to your query i), we currently do not hold statistics on “pupils who could have taken Higher examinations” as we do not collect information on the curriculum offers that schools make to pupils. Instead we have provided “The percentage of pupils who did not take Highers” as those pupils from the base centre cohort that did not have a resulted entry in a Higher in the given year.
